Andrea E. Berardi, Assistant Professor

(CV) (Google Scholar)

Andrea joined the Department of Biology at JMU in 2024. She is interested in studying the genetics of floral color, floral scent, plant-pollinator interactions, reproductive isolation and speciation.

Graduate Students

Erik Smith

Erik is a Masters student interested in the interface of plants and biotechnology. He is currently working on a stable transformation protocol for Silene virginica as well as gene annotation of the genome.

Undergraduate Students

Grace Sebestyen, undergraduate researcher
Grace is a senior majoring in Biology. She is interested in plant-pollinator interactions.

Bella Caldwell, undergraduate researcher
Bella is a junior majoring in Biology. She is interested in pollen-pistil interactions.

Mia Hensgen, undergraduate researcher
Mia is a senior majoring in Biology. Her interests center around plant biology, with a strong curiosity about how molecular biology and chemistry influence biological processes at smaller scales.

Gabriela Koleva, undergraduate researcher
Gabby is a sophomore majoring in Biotechnology. She is interested in plant biotechnology and how genetics, plant pigments, and chemistry influence plant-pollinator interactions

Lab Alumni

Ayana Khan, ’27, undergraduate researcher
